Hands On Racing takes off in Florida!

13-year-old T.J. and 8-year-old Marc went behind the scenes with the National Hot Rod Association in Gainesville, Florida earlier this month, spending the day with drivers and learning the ins and outs of drag racing. Though both boys are battling cancer, they enjoyed a day on the racetrack, learning the tricks of the trade and perhaps even finding a new hobby to enjoy!

More Hands On Adventures will be taking place in Texas, North Carolina, Colorado, and Georgia in the near future, so we’ll have even more updates to share from throughout the country!

Ava’s Fight Against Childhood Cancer

Ava BuhrOn December 9, 2011, the Buhr family’s world was turned upside down when their 2 ½-year-old daughter, Ava, was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a type of childhood cancer. She’s gone through more chemotherapy treatments than an adult cancer patient would, she’s taken too many pills and had too many spinal taps to count, has lost her hair, and has spent the past two years at doctors’ offices rather than in preschool or on playdates with other kids her age. But this month, Ava finished her last dose of treatment. Ava has beaten cancer!

An Alternative Spring Break with Believe In Tomorrow

April is national volunteer month, which makes us even more appreciative of this great group! A dozen students from the University of Missouri decided to forgo a sunny, tropical spring break in favor of a more heartwarming experience: volunteering at Believe In Tomorrow’s facilities in Baltimore, Maryland. For a week, they spent time at our hospital housing facilities and main headquarters, helping out in so many ways!
