Crowns for a Cause
An important component of being involved in beauty pageants is participating in community service events, a requirement which Katerina and Lizzy Rice are extremely familiar with. Not only have the sisters participated in beauty pageants for many years, they have spent countless hours of dedicated volunteer work on behalf of Believe In Tomorrow over the past three years. Katerina and Lizzy certainly exemplify the kind of outstanding volunteers we love to have at Believe In Tomorrow!
The sisters have hosted numerous activities at the Believe In Tomorrow Children’s House at Johns Hopkins, including pizza parties, family suppers, and a variety of activity nights. They often spend time with families, talking and playing with the children.
When not volunteering at the Believe In Tomorrow Children’s House, the sisters can be found actively promoting Believe In Tomorrow through a variety of fundraisers in their schools and the community, including bake sales, Wish List drives, and other activities that have benefited Believe In Tomorrow. They have also volunteered at Port to Fort by working the information booth and helping with day-of set up and organization. In addition, the Rice family has made generous annual donations to the foundation.
16-year-old Katerina and 13-year-old Lizzy enjoy activities just like any other teenager, such as sports, piano, skiing and theatre, but they also know the importance of working in the community. Katerina, who recently earned the title of Miss Teen Maryland America 2011, started a youth group, Compassion for Share, to help girls find ways to become involved in the community. Lizzy recently earned the title of Miss Virginia Jr. Teen America 2011, and also started an organization called Tweens to Queens, which helps young girls build their self esteem through inspirational stories.
