Stevenson University

Members of the Stevenson University Human Services Club prepared a delicious family supper for residents of The Children’s House on Tuesday, Nov.18. In addition to family suppers, The Human Services Club also lends ongoing services to the house, including cleaning, organizing, and baking cookies.

Believe In Tomorrow can only achieve the best for the children and families we serve with the help of the strong hands and willing hearts of our volunteers!

Volunteer of the Month

Volunteers extend our reach in several ways; they are ambassadors in our community and raise awareness of our organization, they connect with our families in compassion and their time and efforts ensure we can allocate 92% of every dollar for the direct benefit of our families.

There are many ways to become involved in the life of Believe In Tomorrow  - volunteer at any one of our facilities, work on a special project, or organize an effort to raise funds or wish list items.

If you would like to help – we would love to speak with you!  We have immediate volunteer opportunities available.  For more information, please contact us at 410-744-1032 or info@believeintomorrow.org

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

Believe In Tomorrow:
Speakers Bureau: Help us inform the community about Believe In Tomorrow’s many programs!  Opportunities include speaking at workplace giving campaigns, fairs & festivals, schools, and other community events. These events usually take place on weekdays and are great for daytime

Translators:  We frequently receive applications from international families for both respite and hospital housing. We are in need of translators for all languages to help us translate documents and communicate verbally with families, either over the phone or in person.

The Believe In Tomorrow Children's House at Johns Hopkins:
Family Suppers: Come prepare and enjoy a delicious meal with the families. This is a great opportunity for groups!

Piano Tuner:  We love to hear the children and parents play the piano in the living room at The Children’s House. We’d love to hear it even more if it were in tune!  If you are a piano tuner, or know a piano tuner who would like to donate their piano tuning services, The Children’s House ears would greatly appreciate it!

Front Desk Greeter: The Children’s House is looking for someone to work at the front desk, answering phones and helping to direct families, every other Wednesday.

St. Casimir:
Deep Cleaners:  Make the apartments of St. Casimir a safe and welcoming place for families to stay and join our deep cleaning team.

Family Suppers:  Come prepare and enjoy a delicious meal with the families.  This is a great opportunity for groups!

Cookie Baking: Treat the families of St. Casimir and The Children’s House at John’s Hopkins to delicious home-baked treats and goodies.

The House on Wisp Mountain:
Welcome Committee:  Help welcome families to their vacation by preparing goodie baskets for their arrival to the house. Members of the welcome basket committee also serve as lookouts to make sure that the house is in good shape (lights working, rooms cleaned, etc.) for the expected family.

Ocean City Volunteer Opportunities:
The House on the Bay, The House By The Sea, and The House on Fenwick Island:
Greeters:  Welcome the families on their first day of retreat.  Greeters meet the visiting families on their first day, answer questions about their retreat, give them the keys, and show them to their retreat home.

Deep Cleaners:  Create a safe and welcoming place for families to stay at The House By The Sea and The House By The Bay by joining our deep cleaning team.  This is an “as needed” opportunity.

Regular Cleaning Crews: Keep the six units at the Children’s House ByThe Sea spotless between family visits by coming in after scheduled checkouts to make the condos sparkle. Please contact Wayne Littleton at wlittleton@believeintomorrow.org for more information.

Other Volunteer Opportunities:
Winter 2009 Wish List Drives are going on now!
We are looking for volunteers to organize and host wish list drives for all of our facilities.  The wish lists are specific to each facility and include household items, food, toys, cleaning supplies, hygiene products and other things that families need while staying in the hospital and respite houses. Wish lists are available for The Children’s House at Johns Hopkins, The Children’s House By the Sea, The House on Wisp Mountain, and The House at Pinnacle Falls.  This is a great opportunity for a school, community, or social group to help with!

Please contact Mindy Weidman, mweidman@believeintomorrow.org, if you would like to participate in the Wish List Drive or to find out about other volunteer opportunities!
