Just because the crowds have gone away, the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk has slowed to a mere stroll – and the aroma of caramel popcorn is a mere memory – a beach respite offers you AND your family an opportunity to reconnect, rest and create new memories during this “quiet time” at the beach.
Although the days are shorter, the sun sets earlier and the temperatures are definitely lower – there are lots of ways to enjoy a “winter” get away at the beach. Ocean City, Maryland and the beach communities of Fenwick Island, Bethany, Dewey and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware offer any traveler an array of opportunities to embrace and things to explore in the “off season.”

Quiet Time - Or NOT: Like most of us, you have a stack of unread books in the corner of a room that are collecting dust – or possibly local library late fees, but you just haven’t gotten around to cracking the cover. Grab that stack of must reads, activity books and arts & crafts how to’s and and head to the Believe In Tomorrow House by the Sea, the Believe In Tomorrow House on Fenwick Island
or the Believe In Tomorrow House on the Bay, on Maryland’s lovely Delmarva Peninsula and discover what it’s like to simply do nothing – or NOT! P.S. Don’t forget the kite!
Ocean City and Beyond: Anytime is a good time to explore Berlin, MD, which is just minutes away from Ocean City. The town is a crossroads of Federal, Victorian and 20th Century architecture. Forty-sevenindividual structures are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. With charming shops and an array of small town restaurants, Berlin is a must see for folks heading to the beach! Fans of “Runaway Bride,” with Julia Roberts and “Tuck Everlasting,” with Sissy Spacek, will recognize the town, which was transformed to “movie set”during the filming of both motion pictures.
Assateague Island: For nature lovers, you can’t beat the rustic beauty of Assateague Island. You’ll see the wild horses who live on the barrier island, in their natural and untouched habitat. As folklore has it, the horses are descended from survivors of a shipwreck off the coast of Virginia. Stop by the Barrier Island Visitor Center, open year round, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, to get more information on Assateague Island National Seashore.
Ice Skating: Enjoy Indoor Ice Skating at the Carousel Resort & Hotel (year round).
Fun City Arcade: Try your luck at the Fun City Arcade, Caroline St. & the Boardwalk (limited winter hours).
