Whether it’s a week or a weekend of fun your family is looking for there should be plenty to do at any one of our Respite Houses. Take a look at the list below! Activities are not guaranteed and vary depending on the time of year and availability.
Beach Respites
Golf Clinic: Maybe miniature golf isn’t your speed. Here’s your chance to hit some golf balls at the driving range, get a lesson from a golf pro, or just ride around on the golf course at Lighthouse Sound.
Hooper’s Crab House: Whether it’s all-you-can-eat or a crab feast, dinner at Hooper’s is offered to our families every Monday afternoon. Yummy!
Fishing & Sightseeing: Private boaters will take your family out on the bay to fish, sightsee, or just sit back and relax.
Assateague Island: You have to see the wild ponies of Assateague! These shores are famous for the ponies’ annual swim from Assateague Island to Chincoteague. The famous pony swim is featured in the children’s book Misty of Chincoteague. Make it a day by going to the beach and taking in the wildlife.
Pirate Adventure: Arrgh Mateys! Are you ready to be a pirate for a day? Learn how to talk like a pirate and search for a buried treasure! This adventure is ideal for children 10 years and under.
Planet Maze: Go here for out-of-this-world, cool activities like laser tag, an indoor climbing maze, and a miniature golf course. It’s like you landed on Mars!
Frontiertown Western Theme Park and Water Park: Go back to the days of the Wild West - and catch a bank holdup and can-can while you're there. Or, head to the water park to enjoy water slides and a lazy river.
Jolly Rogers Amusement Park: There’s everything you would find at a big amusement park, only smaller. Lots of rides, miniature golf, and a water park are all at Jolly Roger’s.
Surf Lessons: Surf’s up at Malibu Surf Shop where surfing instructors offer ten plus years of experience in getting novice surfers up and riding their first wave. The hour lesson consists of five minutes on dry land and the rest of the time hitting the waves!
Bike Rentals: Looking to tour the boardwalk on two wheels? Come out any morning between 6 and 8 a.m. for complimentary bike rentals.
Coast Guard Rides: Hop the Coast Guard cutter with the whole family for an ocean tour by the people who know the waters best. If you’re lucky, you may even get to drive the boat yourself.
Mountain Respite
Western Maryland Railroad: Tour the railroad and go for a ride on the train! (May 1 – December 20) Free to our families. Call (800) 872-4650, for reservations and be sure to let them know you’re with Believe In Tomorrow.
Husky Power Dogsledding: Experience a hands on, educational kennel visit and meet the huskies! (Dogsledding ride NOT included). (Available year round). Contact Linda (301) 746-7200.
Western Trails: Enjoy a trail ride and pony rides. (Available year round, weather permitting.) Contact Mariel at (301) 616-6155 to schedule your ride. One complimentary trail ride or pony ride will be offered to the child in Believe In Tomorrow’s program. Other family members or guests are responsible for payment.
Pasta Night at Will O The Wisp: Enjoy one complimentary child's meal and one complimentary adult meal each Wednesday, during Pasta Night at the Four Seasons Restaurant at Will O the Wisp Resort, on the shores of Deep Creek Lake. Must call for reservations (301) 387-5503.
Smiley's Pizzaria and Family Fun Zone: Enjoy delicious ice cream. (Seasonal hours, April to October). Call (301) 387-2580. Free to our families.
Lakeside Creamery: Enjoy delicious ice cream. (Seasonal hours, April to October). Call (301) 387-2580. Free to our families.
Wilderness Voyageurs Outfitters, Inc: Experience white water rafting and ride the bike trails. (Available Late March – October). Free to our families. Call (800) 272-4141.
Cover Run Farms, LLC: Visit the anmials and have fun in the corn maze, weather permitting! (Available mid-August -- October 31). Free to our families. Call (301) 746 8161
Funland Family Fun Center: Enjoy miniature golf, games, carousel rides and go karts. (Limited Winter Hours. Call 301 387-6168, for more information. Free to our families.
Cheat River Outfitters, Inc: Go rock climbing, enjoy paintball and wild caving opportunities, weather permitting. (Available spring, summer and fall). Free to our families. Contact Wendy (304) 329-2024.
Deep Creek State Park: You don’t have to be on the Atlantic coast to enjoy the beach! Deep Creek Park has sandy beaches and a designated swimming area. Pack a lunch for the family and picnic at the park too! Don’t forget to stop by the Discovery Center, where daily educational programs are offered by the rangers, naturalists, and volunteers.
Swallow Falls Park: Come see the picturesque surroundings at Swallow Falls. It’s a beautiful spot to picnic with the family with peaceful hiking trails along the waterfalls.
Herrington Manor State Park: This park is another beach and swimming area that offers small canoes and paddle boats for a rental fee.
Wisp Resort: There are endless possibilities at Wisp. The resort offers an indoor swimming pool, restaurant, and seasonal activities like skiing, snow tubing, rock climbing, biking, and a man-made white water rafting center!
