A Record-Breaking Race!
THE 15TH ANNUAL RECORD-BREAKING PORT TO FORT 6K!!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to helping make this year’s Port to Fort the biggest and most successful race we’ve ever held!! Almost 3,000 people registered for the race, and although it wasn’t the sunny, 70-degree day that some of us had hoped for, it was still a great success! More than $130,000 was raised on behalf of the children and families served through Believe In Tomorrow housing programs.
Check out our Port to Fort 2011 page for pictures, race results, top finishers and team challenge winners.

Family story - Meet Team Payton
For the past few months you’ve heard about Team Payton, one of the top family teams at the 2011 Port to Fort race, so now meet the Oakley family and little Payton Oakley, the namesake of the team!
When three-year-old Payton was diagnosed with lymphoma in October 2010, it was a struggle to find even a small break in the stressful whirlwind that became daily life. Mom, Debra, stopped working in order to provide the care Payton needed, and everyone lived in constant fear that little Payton would get sick and have to be rushed to the hospital again. Doctors’ appointments, visits to the clinic and daily medication took a toll on Payton, whose mood swings began resembling those of a teenager.

Featured Way to Donate - Believe...In the Force!
The Washington DC Metro Area Star Wars Collecting Club (DCSWCC) recently presented Believe In Tomorrow with a check from the sales of their 2010 Star Wars Charity Pin Drive. DCSWCC chooses a different organization each year to be the beneficiary of their pin drive, and with 100% of the sales directly benefiting the organization, Believe In Tomorrow is thrilled to have been chosen for such a unique honor!
The exclusive Luke Skywalker cloisonné lapel pin was designed in honor of the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, and raised a whopping $5,000 for Believe In Tomorrow! The club’s vice president, Frank Klukosky, and treasurer, Bob Martinazzi, along with Maryland regional director, Jeff Schock, recently presented a check from the pin sales at the Believe In Tomorrow Children’s House at Johns Hopkins.
For all those die-hard Star Wars fans and wanna-be Jedi’s, as well as our everyday Believe In Tomorrow supporters, pins are still available for purchase here. Thank you to the DCSWCC for thinking of Believe In Tomorrow, and may the force be with you!

The First Family Experiences the Believe In Tomorrow House at Pinnacle Falls
The moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally come…the doors to the Believe In Tomorrow House at Pinnacle Falls are officially open and ready for families to visit! Nestled in the mountains of Western North Carolina, this is the foundation’s fifth respite home and the second to prioritize military families through Believe In Tomorrow’s Military Initiative. The first of many Believe In Tomorrow families has already enjoyed a week’s stay and experienced all the great features that our newest facility has to offer.
Just a few short weeks ago, the seven members of the Pincus family put a pause on their busy everyday schedule and set out for a mountain retreat at the Believe In Tomorrow House at Pinnacle Falls. As an Army family, the Pincuses have moved around the country several times over the past twenty years. Dad, Don, is an Army Engineer lieutenant colonel in the Office of the Chief of Engineers at the Pentagon, and he was deployed and served in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Mom, Lori, keeps busy amidst the hustle and bustle of school, sports activities, piano lessons, girl scout meetings and other activities between the five Pincus children.

Volunteer of the Month - The Boys (of Summer)
Need to fix a leaky toilet? Call The Boys.
Need a new house built? Call The Boys.
Need a professional BBQ-er? Call The Boys.
No, it’s not a service ad for some can-do-all, mister fix-it company. Meet The Boys, Bill Long, Richard Neiman, and Hank Meixner, three of our most dedicated Believe In Tomorrow volunteers who can be found every Tuesday down at one of the beach respite houses on the Eastern Shore. This handy trio has been with Believe In Tomorrow for about eight years, and without them, a great number of things would not have been accomplished.
